Flu Update

Uh oh!!  We have been in the midst of RSV season for a few weeks.  We are seeing lots of bronchiolitis and have had several hospital admissions over the past several weeks.  The CDC just announced that we are starting to see a rise in flu cases, and in fact we have seen a couple of kids this week with both – yuck!  The most common strain identified is H1N1 which many of you will remember from a couple of years back.  Although we always worry about the very young and old when it comes to influenza, H1N1 can be quite dangerous to healthy adolescents and adults due to their brisk immune response.  The strain identified is in the flu shot – so if you haven’t received your immunization yet this year please come and get it!!  Thus far the serious illnesses from influenza have been in unimmunized individuals.get-your-flu-shot.shutterstock_41863411
